Excursion to Chiba.
The aim is to visit Mt.Nokogiriyama, a mountain located on the border between Kyonan-cho, Awa-gun and Futtsu-shi.

The whole of Mt Saw is the precincts of the Nippon-ji Temple, and there are many places of interest, including the Nippon-ji Great Buddha, Jigoku-nozoki, Hyakushaku Kannon and the Tokai 1,500 Arhats.
Although I often go fishing nearby, this is the first time I have visited Mt Sawtooth. Once there, it was easy to see why it is so popular.

I will write about my visit to Mt.Nokogiriyama in the future, but this time I will summarise the recommended access method when visiting Mt.Nokogiriyama.
If you are visiting by car, it is more convenient and cheaper to take the Mt.Nokogiriyama Trail to the summit.

The main access method to the top of Mt.Nokogiriyama is by ropeway. However, the ropeway is crowded.
There is even a traffic jam waiting for a parking space in front of the ropeway station.

We had seen this situation before, so this time we did not use the ropeway and took the Mt.Nokogiriyamaeering Expressway to the top of the mountain.
Thanks to this, I was able to enjoy a pleasant sightseeing trip without any stress.

The ropeway to the top of Mt Mt.Nokogiriyama is crowded! Traffic jams also occurred.

Drive from Tokyo to Futtsu City, Chiba Prefecture.

I often go to Futtsu City for fishing, but this is the first time for me to visit as a tourist.
I visit Mt Mt.Nokogiriyama, which I have been curious about for a long time.

Head south on the Futtsu-Tateyama Road in the direction of Tateyama.
Get off at the Futtsu Kanaya IC, turn right onto National Route 127 (Uchibo Nagisa Line) and go straight ahead until you see a red sign saying ‘←Kawasan Ropeway’.

Turn left and you will find the ropeway station, but ignore it and continue straight ahead on the Uchibo Nagisa Line.
If you are not accessing the ropeway by car, you can walk to the ropeway station from the nearest station, Hama Kanaya Station on the JR Uchibo Line.
Incidentally, on the opposite side of the ropeway entrance is Kanaya fishing port. It is a popular place for anglers. You can catch horse mackerels and other fish. I want to fish.

Now, the reason why I don’t recommend using the ropeway is because it gets crowded.
The photo above is of the Uchibo Nagisa Line in the early afternoon, taken by my wife on the way home. It is crowded with cars heading for the ropeway entrance, which is a scourge as it is a single lane.

In fact, I had always been curious about Mt Sawtooth.
But I had seen this congestion when I came here for fishing, so I had avoided it. I don’t like to wait because of my personality.

So this time, I recommend that you don’t use the ropeway to get to Sawmill, but use the Sawmill Trail.

Take the Mt.Nokogiriyama Trail to the top of Mt.Nokogiriyama!

To enter the Mt.Nokogiriyama Climbing Expressway, pass the ropeway entrance and continue along the Uchibo Nagisa Line.

After a while you will come to the Meishong Tunnel, and the entrance to the Mt.Nokogiriyama Climbing Expressway is immediately on your left.

Pay a fee at the entrance to enter the Mt.Nokogiriyama Trail. The fee is 1,000 yen for a standard car.
Incidentally, the ropeway charges are as follows.

Adults: 500 yen one way, 930 yen round trip.
Children: 250 yen one way, 450 yen round trip.

If there are more than two adults in a car, it is more profitable to use the Mt.Nokogiriyama Climbing Expressway.

2.66 km long.
Drive along the well-maintained Mt.Nokogiriyama Trail to the top.

It is short, but has a good atmosphere with tunnels and such.
It is not very steep, so it is an easy trail to drive on.

The view is quite good as you climb up quite high.
This road was used as a filming location for the American film Wild Speed X3 TOKYO DRIFT, released in 2006. I have never seen it.

From the summit car park to Hyakushaku Kannon and Jigoku Nozoki

This is the last stop, the summit parking lot.
There is no parking fee and it is large enough to park about 120 cars.
There is another parking lot (Daibutsu Exit) on the way to the summit, but we recommend that you come here first.

The summit parking lot is located in front of the West Entrance Management Office, so you can easily get to the Hyakushaku Kannon and Jigoku Nozoki at the top of Mt Mt.Nokogiriyama.
To enter beyond the management office, an adult admission fee of 600 yen is charged.

Daibutsu-guchi parking lot to Nippon-ji Daibutsu and Tokai Sen’500 Arhat.

After sightseeing at Hyakushaku Kannon and Jigoku-nozoki, drive to the Daibutsu-guchi car park, which is on the way to the Mt.Nokogiriyama Trail.
There is no parking fee here either.

Although not as large as the summit parking lot, it is easier to visit the Great Buddha of Nippon-ji Temple and the Thousand Five Hundred Arhats of Tokai if you enter from the Daibutsuguchi Management Office in front of the parking lot.
Incidentally, if you show the ticket you received when you paid the entrance fee, you can go straight in.

This way, it is easy to access the attractions within the precincts of Nippon-ji Temple.
If you take the ropeway, the station is at the top of the mountain, so you have to climb up to the top of the mountain after going through the whole area, which is a bit of a challenge in its own way.

If you are accessing the site by car, it is recommended to use the Mt.Nokogiriyama Climbing Expressway to reach the summit, as it is not as crowded as the ropeway and is more convenient and cheaper.
