My wife and I traveled to Hiroshima.
We ended our trip with Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki at “Teppei” in Hiroshima Airport.
Do not underestimate the restaurant even though it is located at the airport. The Hiroshima okonomiyaki we had at “Teppei” was delicious and well worth the trip.
I recommend this restaurant to those who want to enjoy Hiroshima gourmet food until the very end.
This quality is a delight at the airport! Okonomiyaki “Teppei”
On this trip to Hiroshima, we toured Miyajima on the first day and visited tourist spots in Hiroshima City on the second day.
It was a weekend trip, so the itinerary was a short two days.
After visiting the Mazda Stadium, we returned to Hiroshima Station. We were exhausted from walking around in so little time and decided to return to Hiroshima Airport on the same day.
We had an early flight to catch, so we decided to have a leisurely dinner at the airport.
The weather had been fine, but it turned rainy on the way back to the airport.
After returning to the airport by limousine bus, we immediately started looking for a place to have dinner.
Teppei, an okonomiyaki restaurant in Hiroshima Airport
While wandering around Hiroshima Airport looking for a restaurant, we found “Teppei” an okonomiyaki restaurant.
I was intrigued by the bustling appearance of the restaurant and decided that Hiroshima okonomiyaki would be the perfect way to end my trip to Hiroshima.
The restaurant also seemed to have a full menu of dishes other than okonomiyaki, with the words “Oyster Sake Mushi” printed on the menu.
It was not yet dark outside, but the restaurant was almost full with groups of people enjoying drinks.
Autographs were displayed all over the walls, which again raised my expectations.
The atmosphere inside the restaurant is great and makes you look forward to it.
Well-stocked menu
Looking at the menu, there is a wide selection of okonomiyaki and other Hiroshima-style oyster dishes.
We decided to order the okonomiyaki we wanted for the time being, and now we have to decide what to order on the side.
First of all, we ordered “okonomiyaki (all-in-one)” as the main dish.
We also decided to order an oyster dish called “Hiroshima Oyster Yaki” and a sashimi dish called “Ko-Ishi Sashimi” which is said to be a local specialty.
The rest of the dishes were topped off with a draft beer, a memorable way to end the trip.
Okonomiyaki, oyster omelet, and sardine sashimi. All of them would make excellent snacks for sake.

I had heard that sardines are a specialty of Hiroshima, but I didn’t get to try them until the end of my trip.
The sashimi is small, so it is inevitable to chew it well. It was fresh, clear, tasty, and very delicious.
It went well with beer and was the perfect dish to greet the okonomiyaki and kakiyaki.
Hiroshima Oyster Grilled Oyster
We have eaten a lot of oysters on this trip.
Still, I still wanted oysters to finish off the meal, so I ordered the Hiroshima Oyster Yaki.
The oysters were buttery, but the flavor of the oysters was rich and delicious.
No matter where you eat in Hiroshima, the oysters are really good! I’ve even had them at a ramen shop and they were delicious.
Okonomiyaki (all in one)
Hiroshima okonomiyaki is an okonomiyaki with everything: shrimp, squid, squid tempura, soba noodles, pork, and egg.
It is less fluffy and less doughy than the okonomiyaki we had at the first restaurant on this trip.
One of the pleasant things about Hiroshima okonomiyaki is that it also contains buckwheat noodles, which gives it a yakisoba-like texture.
The ratio of okonomiyaki to yakisoba in this restaurant seems to be closer to that of yakisoba.
This is also delicious.
It was the perfect dish to end the trip.
Conclusion
On this trip to Hiroshima, I was able to fully enjoy the food from beginning to end. I am grateful to my wife for guiding me.
This was my first visit to Hiroshima, but I am already feeling the urge to return.
There are many beautiful and fun places to visit, and the food is delicious.
Hiroshima is a great place.
