Visit Hiroshima Castle, the symbol of Hiroshima City

A trip to Hiroshima with my wife.
On the first day, we went from Hiroshima Airport to Miyajima and toured around the island.

On the following day, the second day, we returned from Miyajima-mae Station to Hiroshima Station and decided to head first to Hiroshima Castle in order to explore the sights of Hiroshima City.

How to get to Hiroshima Castle by train

First of all, let me summarize how to get to Hiroshima Castle by train from Hiroshima Station, which is the most frequently used station in the city.

From Hiroshima Station, take the JR Sanyo Line to Shin-Hakushima Station.
Since this is the next station, the train ride takes about 3 minutes.

From the station, it is a 7-8 minute walk to the castle moat. The path is not particularly complicated, so it is easy to find.

The area around the moat is a park, so we recommend taking a walk while enjoying the view of Hiroshima Castle.
Turtles are relaxing in the moat and many killifish are swimming, so you can enjoy the path to the castle as you make your way to the castle.

On this day, there was a gateball tournament going on in the park, and the atmosphere was very lively.

Touring Hiroshima Castle, also known as Koi Castle

This is Hiroshima Castle.
The castle was built by Terumoto Mori, but it was destroyed by an atomic bomb during the Pacific War, and the current castle tower and other castle buildings were all rebuilt after 1958.

It is also known as “Rijo” which means “carp castle”.
This name comes from the fact that the area where Hiroshima Castle used to stand was called “Koinoura” in the old days. The Hiroshima Carp team is named after Koi Castle.

It is possible to enter the castle. The admission fee is 370 yen.

Inside the castle is a museum.
Visitors can see armor, swords, and other artifacts, and learn about the history of Hiroshima Castle.

There is a corner where visitors can take pictures wearing the armor and a corner where they can actually hold and feel the weight of the sword, making the experience fun for children as well as adults.

The photo was taken in a place where photography is allowed.
