Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki at Tanokyu Miyajima-guchi restaurant!
Day 1 of my trip to Hiroshima with my wife.
After arriving at Hiroshima Station from Hiroshima Airport, we took the Sanyo Line to Miyajima-guchi Station to visit our first destination, Miyajima.
To cross to Miyajima, we needed to take a ferry.
We arrived at the ferry terminal from Miyajimaguchi Station, but by that point we were already starving.
Then, near the ferry terminal, we spotted an okonomiyaki restaurant called “Tanokyu”.
We were so hungry that we decided to stop by and have a bite to eat before crossing over to Miyajima.

It is about a 10-minute walk from Miyajimaguchi Station.
After exiting Miyajimaguchi Station, most people head for the ferry terminal, so if you walk along with the flow of people, you will not get lost.

Tanokyu Miyajima-guchi Store” is located on the left side just after entering the arcade of the ferry terminal.
By the way, the door in the photo is for exit only, and you will find the entrance when you enter the building.
The seats are equipped with a teppan (iron plate).
You will be asked whether you want a teppan or a plate when you order.
Since I wanted to head to Miyajima as soon as possible, and also because I wanted to try the grilled food in good condition, I ordered on a plate this time.
If you order by plate, they grill it in the kitchen.
It was a little past lunchtime, but the restaurant was packed with customers.
The staff is energetic and the restaurant is full of life.
There were also detailed instructions on how to prepare the dish yourself on the teppan. If you have time, you should definitely try this as well.
This restaurant has an extensive menu, so it was hard to decide what to order when ordering.
I finally decided on the following,

I finally decided on two items: Okonomiyaki (special) and Stir-fried hormone with kimuchi sauce.
Okonomiyaki (Special)
First up was the okonomiyaki (special), priced at 1,150 yen.
It looks fantastic! We are so hungry, we can’t get enough of the looks.
The aroma of the sauce is enough to make us gasp. The egg on the top is called “Egg.
You can choose between “boiled” or “raw” eggs on top.
When you try it, you will find that the hot dough, the ingredients, and the sauce with just the right amount of acidity are a perfect match. This is delicious.
The cabbage is steamed just right and has a delicious flavor.
What’s more, as only Hiroshima okonomiyaki can do, the noodles are included in the okonomiyaki, which is great.
The noodles are “Tanokyu’s” special fresh noodles, so you can enjoy both okonomiyaki and yakisoba, and this okonomiyaki satisfies both your taste buds and your stomach.
The special contains squid and shrimp, which add flavor and texture to the dish.
Stir-fried hormone with kimuchi sauce
Stir-fried Horukimu (Japanese hormone) with “Tanokyu’s” special kimchi.
The price is 640 yen.
The hormone has a strong flavor that goes well with the spicy kimchi.
The flavor is strong, but it is just right when served with shredded cabbage.
I did not drink alcohol because I thought I would refrain from drinking, but if you have a beer, you will definitely enjoy this dish even more.
Conclusion
Because it is located near Miyajima, I also found a menu using oysters. It is very attractive.
After arriving at Miyajima, I think there is a lot of walking around to visit the shrine.
For those who want to eat before heading to Miyajima, we recommend “Tanokyu” located near the ferry terminal.
