A two-day trip to Mihara, Hiroshima.
On the first day, we decided to visit the highlights near the station under the theme of a trip around Mihara Station.

We arrived in Mihara in the afternoon, so we started our tour of the city after getting hungry.
Our first stop was the Port of Mihara.

This is one of Mihara’s unique and wonderful features. The Port of Mihara is just a 5-minute walk from Mihara Station, the main train station.
One of my travel plans this time was to take the ferry/high-speed boat that leaves from that port to the remote island of Sakijima, a remote island in Mihara.

I finally took a boat from Mihara Port to Sakijima as planned, but more about that story in the next issue.

Here, I will describe the charms of Mihara Port with photos.
The view of the sea from Mihara Port was so beautiful that I visited several times during the trip, and I liked it because it was a place where I felt strangely at home.

The port in the daytime is nice, but it is also nice at night.
If you come here with a can of beer in your hand, you will feel better than if you go into any bar.

Since it is closer to the station, you should visit Mihara Port even if you don’t plan to take a boat.

Mihara Port is a short walk from Mihara Station.

I took the Shinkansen from Tokyo and arrived at Mihara Station before noon.
It was now lunchtime, so I went to the tourist information center to gather some information.

We first had lunch at “Uotoshi Gourmet Restaurant” near Mihara Station to fill up our stomachs before starting our tour of the city.

After leaving the restaurant, we immediately headed for Mihara Port.
I like to look at the ocean, so if the ocean is close to my destination, I want to catch a glimpse of it, no matter what it takes. Since we knew that the ocean was just a short distance from Mihara Station, we went to the ocean first.

There are boats from Mihara Port to the outlying islands, so I also had the objective of taking a boat ride.

How to get from Mihara Station to Mihara Port

Getting to Mihara Port from Mihara Station is easy.

From Mihara Station, take the south exit and walk south for about 5 minutes and you will see the port.

On the road leading from the south exit rotary to the port, there is a sign that says “Mihara Port” so if you follow the directions, you will not get lost.

Just the proximity to the sea is an exciting feeling. This remains true even now that I have become an uncle.
My steps toward the port are getting faster and faster.

This is the scenery in front of Mihara Port.
It is easy to see because of the building standing right on the seafront.

Next to the building is a huge propeller, creating a port-like atmosphere.
This propeller was donated to commemorate the 450th anniversary of Mihara Castle, and is said to be 6.3 meters in diameter and weighs 20 tons.

The view from the harbor is of the calm sea and the mountains with trees in the distance.
It was 38 degrees Celsius that day, so we couldn’t stay long, but we could have spent forever sitting on the edge of the harbor and admiring the view.

We took a boat from this port to “Sakijima” a remote island in Mihara, but more on that next time.

I recommend an evening or nighttime stroll through Mihara Port.

Mihara Port in the daytime is nice, but the atmosphere of the port is even better in the evening and at night.

As the area grows darker, the lights in the passageways and other areas of the port begin to turn on.
The harbor is especially beautiful as the sun gradually sets and it gets darker and darker. It is the best time to take pictures.

The setting sun setting into the mountains in the distance and the ocean stretching out before your eyes are a perfect match.
You can spend a very elegant time watching the light reflecting off the gently swaying surface of the water and thinking about it.

Of course, the harbor after dark is also good.
The lights reflecting off the blackened sea make the night more attractive.

There are benches set up around the harbor, and couples, who are probably locals, and men enjoying a can of beer while looking out at the sea, were enjoying their time at the harbor.
Well, I decided it was time for me to get a beer, so I bought some at a convenience store near the port.

I returned to the port and toasted with a can of beer alone.
On the first day of the trip, I was thinking of going to a bar for the second drink after going to an izakaya, but I changed my mind and had a drink at the port.

Mihara Port is quiet, has a nice atmosphere, and the scenery is lovely, so it’s cozy. If you are in the middle of a trip, it would be nice to have a can of beer while slowly thinking about the day’s events.

Conclusion

Mihara Port is a 5-minute walk from Mihara Station.
I think the port is often used to take a ferry or high-speed boat, but as summarized here, it is also recommended to visit even if you do not have a purpose.

Why is a can of beer at the port so delicious?
However, please take safety into consideration when using the port. Mihara Port is fenced off and seems relatively safe, but I guess it depends on the weather.
