Hiroshima Mihara trip.
We planned to participate in a monitoring tour on the second day, but the first day was free.

The theme of the first day was “a trip around Mihara Station” and we decided to visit some of the highlights of the city that we could enjoy without going too far from the station.

Before touring the city, we decided to visit a tourist information center.
Since we wanted to visit the outlying islands of Mihara, we wanted to get a boat schedule and make our plans ahead of time. I also wanted to ask for island recommendations.

We also gathered information about the Mihara Station area on the Internet in advance, but we still wanted to hear recommendations from local people.
Since we had narrowed down the area to the Mihara Station area, we were hoping to find some interesting information that could only be obtained locally.

When visiting a city for the first time, go to a tourist information center first.

A two-day trip to Mihara City, Hiroshima Prefecture.
The main purpose of the trip was to participate in a monitoring tour organized by the Mihara Tourist Association, but I decided to visit the city earlier and take a tour of the city.

After arriving at Mihara Station, we visited the ruins of Mihara Castle Tenshudai, which can be seen from the station.
It was quite pleasant to see the beautiful scenery while thinking about the history of Mihara.

Now, it was time to start touring Mihara City! But first, I wanted to know a few things.

When visiting a city for the first time, it is customary to gather information at the tourist information center.
So we headed for the “Ukishiro Lobby,” a facility located inside Mihara Station where the Mihara Tourist Association also provides tourist information.

How to get to the “Ukishiro Lobby” tourist information center

Now, let us briefly explain how to get to the Tourist Information Center from Mihara Station.

Look at the ticket gates, including those for conventional lines, and go toward the right.

Then you will see a sign that says “Tourist Information Center”, so head in that direction.
The information center is located inside the station and is easy to find.

The green pillar is easy to spot from a distance.
The information mark with an “i” in the “○” is a landmark.

This is the “Ukishiro Lobby. The name “Ukishiro Lobby” was taken from “Ukishiro” another name for Mihara Castle.
There is a tourist information center and a café inside.

Tourist Information Center operated by Mihara Tourist Association

Inside the “Ukishiro Lobby,” you will find posters announcing events in and around Mihara.
The counter of the tourist information center can be seen in the back of the photo.

It is open from 9:00 to 19:00 on weekdays and from 10:00 to 18:00 on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

Bicycles are available for rent and can be rented for 500 yen per day.
Bicycles can be rented for 500 yen per day. However, please note that the bicycles must be returned by 17:30.

Now, I had a few things I wanted to buy and a few questions I wanted to ask, so I approached the woman at the tourist information counter.

She said, “I am going to spend a day sightseeing in Mihara City. First of all, I would like to go to a remote island. I saw on the Internet that there are several remote islands in Mihara.”

The first thing I wanted to ask was information about the remote islands in Mihara. I wanted to know about recommended islands and boat times to the islands, since I was k interested in visiting them.
However, the response to this first question was disappointing.

The boat schedule and flyer I had asked for were for the island of Onomichi, not for the island of Mihara.
Not the island of Mihara…. I know Onomichi is popular.

You said, “This is the island of Onomichi, isn’t it? I prefer Mihara, so can you give me the timetable for the boat to Sakijima?”

I had no choice, so I gave him the name of Sakijima, a remote island in Mihara that I had researched beforehand, and asked him to give me a boat timetable.

I asked him several other questions, but he only answered my questions from beginning to end.
I would have been happy if he had given me even one recommendation since I had told him that I was going to visit Mihara City.

When you go sightseeing in Mihara, it would be better to do a preliminary study on the Mihara Tourist Association’s website “Mihara Kanko Navi” and then ask for the information you want at the Tourist Information Center.

After staying in Mihara for two days, I felt that there are many things to see and do in Mihara.
That is why I was a little disappointed.

Coin-operated lockers are available at the station

Now, if your goal is to travel, you will use coin lockers more often than not.
If it is time to check into a hotel, it is no problem, but if not, you will have to use coin lockers to lighten your load.

Coin lockers are also available at Mihara Station. Safe and secure.
Incidentally, if you plan to go to the remote islands, there are also coin lockers at the Port of Mihara, so you can also use those.

Conclusion

After gathering information at the station and putting your luggage in a coin locker, it’s time to start your trip.

I was a bit disappointed at the tourist information center, but I got what I needed, so it was okay.
We decided to tour around the city according to the plan we had planned in advance.

In the next issue, I will write about our tour of the city!
